Art Deco Splashing Barrels and flying fish!

Celebrating 325 years of Nolet Distillery - Projection Mapping

Another job with the lovely team at Projection Artworks.
In a large team we created a 10 minute animation taking visitors through the 11 generations of craftsmanship by Nolet. I created the start up where the Mill lights up. The artistic section about art from the era, underwater scene with fish swimming out of windows and the Art Deco/Great Gatsby section with splashing barrels. Here's a cool little video of the project by Projection Artworks. The projection was accompanied by water cannons, lighting and a firework display.

New Year, New Logo

It was time to update the branding for freelance side of things and it's taken a change in creative and a colourful direction. Referencing the colour spectrum and a need to portray movement and motion I've developed a bright and vector based style that I always lean towards:

By positioning the segments of the logo at different depths,  the mark has taken on a curling movement from front to back or vice versa. Adding motion to my logo was a key part of the brief.

I played around with transfer modes in the images above. I think it's been over done lately though and I'm very pleased with the movement the layering creates in the 'final' mark.

I always try with my branding to create an uplifting element to the brand. Here I've achieved it by creating a little orange smile that lifts up to the right.

Happy New Year!

To everyone that's made it a great 2015 and everyone that's supported my work, thank you.
Here's to a wonderful, fruitful and busy 2016.

January has been busy with work for BBH, Create Advertising, Lucky Generals, REDJanuary and KnockKnock Productions.

A wide variety of work including Ads for Tesco and Britvic, Trailers and TV ads for some 2016 films (which shall ever remain nameless due to secrecy). Content for an online social networking service, web design for Hannah Beecham and her sterling work with REDJanuary, 2D character animation for KnockKnock Productions and some branding chucked in for good measure!

Phew, bring on February!

I've just finished the last touches to R.E.D January's first website. The main site launches later this month.

R.E.D January is a charity challenge helping to shine a light on mental health issues, all in association with the charity 'Mind.'
What's the challenge?
imple - Run Every Day throughout January.

It's a wonderful way to shed the pounds, beat the winter blues and raise  some money for a very worthwhile cause. There'll be running events too along with R.E.D's partners Zoom Fitness and Sweaty Betty

Pop over to the site for loads more info...

You Can Make It!

Less Time Cooking! More Time Winning!

OK. We know you're busy, so we'll keep this short.  Pot Noodle is the UK's number 1 instant hot snack.  It's also one of Britain's most iconic brands.  But over the years, it had become associated with Slacker culture. While this had worked brilliantly for previous generations, it was out of touch with today's 18-24s.
So Lucky Generals flipped its key brand benefit - simplicity - so that it appealed to today's go-getters.  Now, spend less time reading blurb like this and more time smashing it on multiple levels

I was stoked to work with my new client, Lucky Generals, for Pot Noodle on this new ad. We worked up the end card for this TVC that airs this Saturday during the X Factor!

A Busy Summer!

It's been a busy summer here at Cook Towers. Working with Create, Projection Artworks, Hub, Knock Knock, Superhero Screen and Duckeye on some great projects BIG and small.

I'm currently working on a sweet animation for new client Duckeye based in Cornwall. Helping out a team on a fun approach to telling a story with 3D and 2D animation for a food brand.

The new site is up and running!

I'm so happy to have recently finished the re-furb and re-launch of the site. It's been a long time coming and I finally had a break between contract to do it.

Also so happy to be using SquareSpace, it's so intuitive, simple and helpful to use, from design all the way to the back end CSS bits and bobs and SEO is a breeze.

I've added some old and new jobs, some print and branding and also this here new blog where I'll be chatting about past, present and future projects.

Hope you enjoy the show. Get in touch with me about art, motion or just a good old chin wag.

Ta, James.

COOKIE is UK motion designer, director & VFX artist James Andrew Cook, a senior motion designer for award-winning advertising agency Empire Design in London. Having worked with design, film and advertising agencies for over 15 years, he has built up an impressive portfolio.

His most recent work was on the movie trailer and TV adverts for ‘Senna,’ which won the 2011 World Cinema Documentary Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival. ‘Senna’ tells the story of the late Formula 1 driver, Ayrton Senna, through archival footage of his life, on and off the racetrack. Trapcode Particular helped shape a fast-paced sequence that perfectly complemented a film devoted to speed.

“I’ve been using Trapcode plugins – my favourite is Particular – on practically a daily basis since I first discovered them back in 2004”, James told us. ”From subtle touches – drifting dust to add realism to a project, for example – to dramatic effects like bursts of light and sparks, I’ve always found that Trapcode plug-ins enable me to create new and exciting visual pieces.”
