The Boat That Rocked - International Trailer & TV
Client: Working Title
Agency: Empire Design
2D, 3D modelling, motion graphics, rotoscoping, particle animation, compositing by James Andrew Cook
We wanted to travel from the Universal globe to the boat. After creating the world and sun in 3D I used stock footage, particle systems and effects to fly through the clouds, across the ocean and down to the rocking boat. I even chucked in a few seagulls that you can just see and hear as you slam down just above the sea.

Carmen in 3D Domestic & International Trailer & TV
Client: RealD Inc.
Agency: Empire Design
Title Design by James Andrew Cook & Mike Stillwell
3D modelling & animation, Stereoscopic camera rigging design and management, motion graphics, compositing by James Andrew Cook
I wanted to create a title that incorporated the two main elements that you see in the story and opera: death (blood) and beauty (rose). From the blood spilled at the end of the opera to the symbolic rose falling to the floor.

Dorian Gray - International Trailer & TV
Client: Momentum Pictures.
Agency: Empire Design
3D modelling, motion graphics, rotoscoping, particle animation, compositing by James Andrew Cook & James Dennington
I wanted to create a title that would reflect the story of Dorian life. I quickly decided to mix stock footage, 3D modelling and particle systems to have the title disintegrate over the screen time. With a transition left to right the beautiful shiny reflective title crumbles away to reveal an old and damaged inner self.

Frost/Nixon - International Trailer & TV
Client: Working Title Pictures
Agency: Empire Design
Motion graphics, animation, rotoscoping, compositing, type setting and title design by James Andrew Cook
For this project we wanted to create many screens to reflect the many news stories that involved Nixon.

The Soloist - International Trailer & TV Spots
Client: Working Title Pictures
Agency: Empire Design
Title and logo Design, Motion graphics, 2D particle animation, compositing by James Andrew Cook
For the Soloist trailer I wanted to create musical transition from Jamie Foxx's face to the title. I noticed a great way to do this by using the freckles on his face as musical notes. As the face disappears the notes take the freckles places and lead us to the blue background. Letters and notes float into position to reveal the title.
In some way, hopefully, you're left still imagining that the music is part of the character and the character is part of the title.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy - International Trailer & TV
Client: Working Title Pictures
Agency: Empire Design
Motion graphics, rotoscoping, 2D animation, compositing and title design by James Andrew Cook

Nanny McPhee & The Big Bang - International Teaser, Trailer and TV
Client: Working Title Pictures
Agency: Empire Design
Previsual 3d animatics, 3D modelling and animation, tracking, match moving, compositing, roto work, VFX and title design by James Andrew Cook.
We created a transition to the moon from the Universal logo to set an eerie beginning for the trailer. After creating the moon in 3D and compositing clouds made in After Effects, I moved on to make more clouds for the captions using stock and particles to reveal and dissipate the captions as we flew around the valley to the children's house.  The valley shot was tracked and match moved so I could create a dark menacing fog that enveloped the trees, fields and house leading to the door and the presentation of Nanny herself. Rusty old wind vanes, clouds, moons, lightning, stick sparks and explosions were all made to enhance the footage and story for the teaser.
